Das zu erneuernde Gerät (Philips/FEI XL30 ESEM mit FE-Kathode) wurde 2003/2004 beschafft, befindet sich seitdem unverändert in Nutzung und ist die zentrale Struktur der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (OVGU) integriert worden. Insbesondere die Software (Windows-Versionen 2000 bzw. XP, REM-Steuerungssoftware, EDX/EBSD-Software etc.) und die Analytik-Hardware (EDX- und EBSD-Detektoren) befinden sich derzeit weiterhin auf dem Stand der Anschaffung.
